Jo-Anne Wright was born and raised in Edmonton and has long lived in Edmonton's southeast. Prior to being elected as Ward Sspomitapi Councillor in 2021, Jo-Anne had been a lifelong community builder, volunteering her time to local organizations including the Meadows Community League, and spent most of her career in the finacial services industry. Jo-Anne holds a Bachelor of Human Resources and Labour Relations, In her role as Councillor, Jo-Anne is the Vice-Chair of the Urban Planning and Audit Committees. She is the Council Advisor to the Community Services Advisory Board, and serves as one of the Council appointees to the Edmonton Police Commission. During her first term on Edmonton City Council, Jo-Anne made the commitment to residents of Ward Sspomitapi to connect with them and share their perspective at City Council. Jo-Anne has actively participated in community events, both in and out of the Ward, to learn more about the various organizations and cultures that make up our diverse community. By engaging with city employees on site at their place of work along with at meetings and other functions, Jo-Anne has gained a better understanding of the complexity that surrounds the decisions made at City Hall.
